Oshkosh Air Show

One of Ken's traditional outings for he and the kids is the annual air show in Oshkosh, WI. Last weekend he and Matthew attended together.

Matthew took some fantastic pictures with our little digital camera!

This transport was just HUGE!

This is the air intake. =)

Two planes and a parachutist.

F-16 fighter on the ground waiting to take off.

"Even standing that far away, the heat felt like a fan that was blowing hot air. If you notice the little flags were going back and forth really fast! He was just idling there and the heat was still really really strong. Just to relieve you,-- he was not going to take off there."--Matthew

These are things that little boys are made of.
Nothing like a bit of dreaming.

They had a fantastic time. Matthew can't stop talking about it.

Dolfi and Gilagwenda

This week our family had the honor of a visit with some heroes of the faith. Dolfi and Gilagwenda (he said that it was okay to call him Gil) from Tanzania came for dinner.

They live in the bush about 4 hours drive from the nearest well. Gil is a datoooga tribes man who has come to know the risen savior personally and seeks to minister to the needs of his people.

Boy did they have the stories to share! Gil has hunted and killed a cape buffalo and a leopard with just his tribal weapons.

Being fellow cat lovers, we had lots of fun with Peekaboo. She loved Dolfi's necklace!

I think we caught her in a wild mood.

We finished the evening by teaching Gilagwenda how to play spoons. Boy did he catch on fast.

It was a fairly mild game though (no blood) and we spent most of our time laughing over everyone's fakes and mistakes. What a blessing to share our evening with such dear people!

I've succumbed - one decade later.

It's been ten years since Auntie Kay first introduced me to the world of Jane Austin. I've been a fan ever since! Being an avid fashion historian and seamstress, with a weakness for period garb, it's surprising that I've held out this long. But no more. I finally succumbed to the urge for my own "Pride and Prejudice Dress". Here is the result.

Yes, yes, yes, I know that an empire dress can make you look pregnant, and I know that tall women aren't supposed to wear high waisted dresses, and I know that it makes me look very tall indeed. However, I've come up with a solution.

Always stand next to someone who is taller than you are. - GJ

It's somebody's birthday !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE

We sure enjoyed asking you our traditional birthday questions. You're a good sport.
As they say in England, "Many happy returns of the day!"

With love and prayers,

Home Celebrations

Ok, so the original plan was to head down to Oakland and do something to Kyle for his birthday. However, with Kyle being busy laying flooring all this week, we had to scale back and do something a little more rational.

(Or could it be that Kyle is just pretending to be busy in order to escape us? Hmmm.)

Sunday afternoon we headed out to the pool for a little refreshment. Fellow birthday boy Nate was sick :-( and couldn't join the "pool party", so he took fun pictures instead.

Ta Da!

We had a sumptuous dinner of leftovers, and Kyle entertained us with birthday memories.

Let's just say, there is a background to these pictures. No, I'm not crying, I'm trying really hard (and unsuccessfully, I might add) to control my laughter!

Like our hot wheels wrapping paper? Well it was better than the flowers and butterflies!

Kyle models the scarf Haley made for him. We came up with some other ways to wear it . . . but you'll have to use your imagination, 'cause those pictures are not going on the blog!

We sure had fun! Thanks for always being such a good sport and entering in to our goofy schemes. Happy Birthday! - GJ

Nate the Great . . . . . .part 2

We found so many fun pictures of Nate the Great. He was built like a square chunk of wood, and full of life. Of course it helps to have older siblings who encourage you (sometimes dangerously) in your imaginative play!

Nate and Gretchen.

His favorite cereal, when he got older he used to hide it under his bed!

He and Gretchen still love to clown around. If you don't believe
me, invite them both over for dinner sometime.

We get such a kick out of the butterfly sunglasses!

Too cute!

Well disguised!
(Kyle--- does this remind you of anyone else in the family??)

Nate and Natalie.
The pumpkin look!
They were acting out some ballet or other.

The cousins in Door County Wisconsin. They all slept on mattresses up in the loft. Boys on one side ---- girls on the other.

Nate and Tim at Karl & Kathy's wedding.

The prince and the princess!

Nate and our dear friend Mrs. Barton.

The guys are heading out to fish on Lake Michigan.

We are thankful that the Lord put Nate into our family.
